What Does A Telco Company Do?


Discover the world of telco companies. This name, short for telephone communications, is applied to a wide range of businesses and you’ll probably heard of the term more often than you know. They are also sometimes called telecom companies. But what are they? And what do they do?



Firstly, let’s just go over the names. We’ve got telephone communication companies, telecom companies and telco companies. They all mean exactly the same thing. It just depends how much time and effort you want to put into your sentence. However, despite the fact that each of these names focusing on ‘tel’, ‘tele’, and ‘telephone’, that’s not all that the company is about.

Ok, so TeleChoice is a telco company and yes, we do sell mobile phones and landlines. But we do more than that. We also provide NBN services and mobile data plans and much more. When the term telephone communication was first invented, to describe the first of the telecom companies, telephones were the ground-breaking piece of technology. They replaced the telegram and letters. They were huge, revolutionary. And we get why! But over the years, communication and technology advanced. From static phones in our homes we were suddenly using wireless phones. And then mobile phones. And then those mobile phones suddenly developed the ability to receive email, take photos, run apps. Think about the dramatic advances in technology in recent years and it’s no wonder that telephone communication companies started shortening their names.

They are so much more than that. A large part of their business is now providing the handsets and data plans to enable us to stay connected 24/7 via our mobiles. Most telco companies including TeleChoice, also are internet service providers. In Australia, that means we offer NBN services. Because so much of our communication is now done via the internet, it made sense for telco companies to branch out into this new wave of communication. From landlines, to mobiles, to the internet. Who knows what telecom companies will be offering us next in terms of our connectivity. Because that’s what they do – they connect us. However society communicates, telco companies are helping us say what we want to say, via the mediums which we choose to use.
