How Hygienic is Your Smartphone?

A significant part of preventing the spread of COVID-19 is maintaining strict personal, home and workplace hygiene – buy did you know that your smartphone should be included? Here’s some advice from the TeleChoice products team. And if you need to upgrade your TeleChoice mobile plans or need assistance with your mobile, just contact TeleChoice online or by phone to speak to a friendly member of our team.

Why Does My Mobile Need Disinfecting?

The World Health Organisation and Australian government recommends regularly disinfecting all high-contact surfaces – and since we touch our phones 2,600 times a day on average, our mobiles are one of the items at the top of this list.

COVID-19 can survive on surfaces for hours or even days, and we tend to take our mobiles with us everywhere we go. We take calls or send texts while at the shops or picking up kids, we take deliveries then play a mobile game, or we answer emails on the go. And every time we do, we risk transferring the virus from whatever we have touched onto our phones – and from there, it’s an easy jump for the virus to infect us.

It doesn’t matter how well or how often we wash our hands if we then go and touch a contaminated smartphone or tablet, so it needs to be part of your regular disinfecting regime.

How to Disinfect Your Mobile Phone or Tablet

The TeleChoice products team recommends that you:

  • Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds and dry them.
  • Get a microfibre cloth or soft tissue.
  • Unplug your device and turn the phone off.
  • Remove the protective cover.
  • Mix soap and water in a spray bottle or use a 70% alcohol (no higher) sanitizer spray. You can also use a 70% alcohol sanitizing wipe.
  • Spray lightly onto the cloth (do not get the cloth wet).
  • Gently wipe down your phone and case, without getting liquid into the charging port or speakers.
  • Replace the protective cover.
  • Wash your hands.
